American actor and director David Arquette was born on September 8, 1971 in Winchester, Virginia. He was born of a family of actors: his mother is an actress, poet and acting teacher, and his father was popular television actor Lewis Arquette. He has four siblings – Rosanna, Richmond, Alexis and Patricia – all of whom are actors of varying success. Even his grandfather, Cliff Arquette, was an actor and comedian, famous for his character Charley Weaver.
Arquette began working early and found his first big break in movies, appearing in the 1992 film Buffy the Vampire Slayer, precursor to the television show of the same name. The role wasn’t huge but it was enough to gain him a much larger spot in 1996’s thriller movie Scream, starring alongside Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell and, most importantly, Courtney Cox. He’d appeared with Cox previously in a 1996 episode of Friends, and the two roles were apparently enough to engender more than just a mere friendship, as the two started dating and were married in 1999. They’ve since had one child, Coco Riley Arquette.
Arquette’s character in Scream, Dewey, a simple and quiet cop, was originally slated to die; however he proved so popular with test audiences for the film that Dewey survived the first iteration and went on to appear in the second and third Scream movies. He has since earned a reputation for goofy mainstream characters, with appearances in such movies as Free Money, 3000 Miles to Graceland, Eight Legged Freaks and Muppets From Space.
Arquette’s more serious acting chops didn’t emerge until he began starting in indie roles, beginning with Johns in 1996. He’s been given the chance to expand on his normal goofy antics in such roles, though the majority of his high-paying roles continue to be more farcical in nature.
Arquette has also lent his voice to two video games, named ESPN NFL 2K5 (where he gets his own team, the Los Angeles Locos) and in SSX Tricky, where he’s the voice of main character Eddie.
Unbeknownst to some, Arquette is also a former wrestler in the WCW. After appearing in the WCW-sponsored movie Ready to Rumble Arquette was brought into the WCW’s wrestling storylines on television, where he appeared from the crowd and leaped into the ring in a battle against Eric Bischoff in his debut appearance. Soon after he was allied with Chris Kanyon and former champion Diamond Dallas Page, who worked together to help Arquette beat Bischoff in the ring. He squared off with Bischoff again in a dual match with Page for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Arquette managed to pin Bischoff in the final and took away the championship for himself.
Arquette was thereafter labeled as more of a coward and a comedian in his subsequent appearances, though he lost his championship not long after he got it. In the process he betrayed Page and was taken down. He has since been labeled as the big reason Nitro failed.
